REVISED: August 18, 2021DEPARTMENT: Technical ServicesJOB TITLE: Sample Lab TechnicianREPORTS TO: Sample Lab ManagerFUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:MISSION: The Sample Lab Technician will test, validate, and recommend specific printing systems for a variety of coding and marking applications, providing representative samples to the sales team (and when necessary, other internal customers and/or the end user(s)).MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • Prepare high quality samples that meet all required application specifications, in a timely manner
    • Goals are to maintain an average turnaround time of less than two working days, and complete 85% of all standard sample requests within that timeframe
      • Document and catalogue sample parameters and other relevant data via Sample Lab Database (Salesforce)
        • Verify content and quality of all machine-readable codes (linear barcodes, DataMatrix codes, etc.)
          • Provide technical support to internal and external customers with regard to samples
            • Maintain sample lab equipment and materials in good working order and per safety requirements
              • Establish and maintain up-to-date knowledge of Domino technologies and related products
                • Cross-train on alternate printing technologies (e.g. TIJ) to serve as emergency sample backup
                  • Maintain a "Domino: Do More" attitude
                    • Identify potential methods to improve Sample Lab efficiency, productivity, and quality of work
                      • Adhere to all Domino policies and procedures
                        • Other duties as needed
                          QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEAssociates degree; or two years in job related function; or equivalent combination of training and experience.Preferred understanding of the fundamentals of inkjet technology, chemical safety, and substrate response. Certification in hazardous waste management.COMPUTER SKILLSTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications. Individual must be able to navigate via web browser and be familiar with basic concepts of networking.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Technical Writing - Ability to clearly and accurately describe results of each individual sample completed relative to requested specifications.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSPerform simple calculations (multiplication, division, percentages, etc.) and unit conversions.Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, and simple physics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
