We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Staff Member to work in the area of applied microbiology with experience in microbiology and bioprocessing. This position is in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.Essential Duties- Conduct research in the field of microbiology, synthetic biology, and bioprocessing.- Design, implement, and analyze experiments for microbe-metal interactions involving metal adsorption and biomineralization.- Contribute to and actively participate in the conception, design, and execution of research to address defined problems.- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings.- Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment and other national laboratories and industry to accomplish research goals.- Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory.- Maintain an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook including complete records of experiments.- Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications- Recent PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or related field.- Knowledge and experience in bacterial physiology.- Experience with bacterial culturing and cloning.- Ability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution; ability to understand and analyze experimental results.- Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information.Desired Qualifications- Knowledge in minerology and mineral-microbe interactions.- Experience with column chromatography and analytical techniques.- Experience with systems biology and omics analysis. Note: This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
