with chronic mental health needs in Lake County for over 30 years.

Living Room Program Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)
Join our team of skilled and caring professionals as a Certified
Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)in the Living Room program at
Independence Center. The Living Room is an innovative
peer-supported recovery environment that supports people who are
experiencing a personal crisis. Being unique and innovative in its
approach, The Living Room is promoting an exciting new culture of
support for people in crisis. The pursuit of our individuals'
development of autonomy, self-esteem, and involvement in their care
is highly supported and encouraged. The staff of the Living Room
assists in empowering those we serve to master their lives and to
clearly define their strengths, needs, wants hopes, and
aspirations. The Living Room Program Certified Recovery Support
Specialist (CRSS) would serve as a role model, mentor, advocate,
and motivator to recovering individuals to help individuals in
crisis prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Recovery
Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery
experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
Position Requirements: Must have previous experience using mental
health or substance use services, is currently in recovery, and
excited to model recovery for others experiencing similar
struggles. Must have compassion for people who are hurting and a
desire to help ease the suffering of others. Must believe recovery
is possible for all people who experience mental health and
substance use challenges, including knowledge and application of
the Recovery Oriented Model specific to those experiencing a mental
health crisis. Must be able to work well in a team, and complete
tasks professionally and effectively. Must display empathic skills
and the ability to establish rapport with staff, individuals
served, family members, and service providers. Possess knowledge of
delivery systems, organizational skills, understanding crisis
intervention. Must have familiarity with the internet, word
processing, and email systems. Ability to handle confidential
information professionally and appropriately. ability to quickly
engage participants and build appropriate therapeutic alliances
with solid boundaries. Some prior experience working in human
services preferred, along with passion and a genuine desire to help
others. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Assist individuals in utilizing effective coping and self-help
techniques. Assist individuals who have experienced social
stigmatization with their sense of acceptance. Document accurately,
neatly, and consistently every and any contact with or on behalf of
a participant. Provide assessments, problem-solving, side by side
services, skills teaching, support, and environmental adaptations
to assist individuals with crisis. Provides instruction and skills
training in illness and recovery management to individuals and
their families. Assists individuals in arranging transportation (to
clinical, medical, and any other appointments deemed necessary.
This position requires driving the company vehicle. Utilize tools
such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to help
participants create their individualized recovery plan. Assist
individuals in identifying and plugging into treatment services,
self-help groups, community groups, faith-based community groups to
expand individual's recovery support system. Help individuals
identify barriers to recovery goals. identifies personal strengths
in daily living and recovery skills. assist in building social,
problem-solving, and coping skills. Help individuals to identify
and overcome fears. Transportation is provided to individuals.
Requirements:Position Qualifications: If not already a Certified
Peer Specialist, the applicant must attend the next available CPS
training and pass the exam if hired. Bachelor's degree preferred or
High School diploma or equivalent with considerable experience that
relates to the population served. Requires current, valid Illinois
driver's license. Demonstration of peer support, Recovery, or
