The Sr Rigger is responsible for safely making heavy equipment moves, mobilizations, pickups and deliveries to Abbott facilities locations within Lake County for GES Lake County Maintenance and Construction Services.
Hours: Monday- Friday 5:45 am - 2:15 pm.
Major Responsibilities:
The major responsibilities include:
Operating Abbott or leased motor vehicles / cranes / hoists / lift trucks in a safe manner (van, small truck, straight truck CDL (class B) required, 40 Ton crane certified operator).
Complete heavy equipment moves, pickups and deliveries at various Abbott locations with some emergency supplier pickups.
Maintain positive customer relationships with all Abbott employees.
Operating Abbott or leased motor vehicles / Cranes / Hoists / Lift Trucks in a safe manner:
The Sr Rigger must ensure safe driving techniques at all time and must meet all department procedures including Illinois/Wisconsin state motor vehicle operating license requirements/qualification. - Must have/maintain a minimum of CDL class B endorsement for operating single vehicle with GVWR of at least 26,001 pounds. - Must become certified on a 40 ton crane, signals and use load charts to determine lift safety. - Moves/set-up/aligns machinery/heavy equipment using ropes, cables, chain blocks or tackle, and slings; with cranes, hoists, rollers, and other devices to move items. - Must have or obtain Forklift and Ariel Lift Licenses.
Complete heavy equipment moves, pickups and deliveries at various Abbott locations:
The Sr. Rigger must be able to load and unload materials, pallets, cylinders, barrels, etc., onto and off the truck as needed. This includes using various tracking methods of written manifests, computer manifests, or vendor packing slips. - May erect or hang scaffolds and be capable of performing work at heights. - Complies with all applicable safety requirements for assigned task. - Must select proper materials and use proper rigging technique to accomplish move(s) safely and correctly. -Performs mechanical work such as repairing pumps, seals, conveyors, putting seals in drives. -Able to work from blueprints, drawings, and sketches. - Must be able to read gauges, use calipers, use hand and power tools. -Must be able to use precision machine levels and optical / laser levels. - -Understand and apply rigging manuals, manufactures equipment manuals, and service manuals. - -Must have working knowledge of an oxygen and acetylene torches. - The Sr Rigger must be capable of estimating weight of equipment to be lifted or moved, understanding and able to calculate the center of gravity of equipment along with knowledge of various machines and how they interact for installation and removal.
Maintain positive customer relationships with all Abbott employees:
The Sr Rigger works / delivers to many different Abbott location in AP, Amhurst, Conway Park, Des Plaines, and Gurnee. - Excellent customer service skills are necessary because the Sr Rigger works / delivers to many different location and various Abbott personnel throughout the day. - When problems arise with job assignments, the Sr Rigger must try and resolve the issue(s). - If a solution(s) cannot be found, the Sr Rigger must contact the Rigging Team Group Leader or Supervisor.
Errors in judgment while working with peers or failure to follow specific safety rules and procedures could result in serious injury to the trade's people and others and/or cause significant equipment or property damage.
Errors in the operation of the crane for example could cause extensive property damage to not only the crane but also structures near the crane and a possibility exist that life and death implications could occur.
Sr Rigger is responsible for driving Abbott vehicles or leased vehicles in a safe and legal manner. - Deliveries and pickups are to be made according to the riggers delivery schedule in a safe and efficient manner. - If the driver is reckless, it could result in personal injury to Abbott employees, contract employees, or public the public. - If materials, parts, or equipment is damaged or lost, it could result in product availability issues, delayed projects, down time, IDOT, OSHA or Regulatory compliance observations and/or fines.
Reports directly to Group Leader and takes direction from Group Leader and/or Supervisor/Area Manager.
Must have a high school education/equivalent. - Trade school for rigging or millwright is highly suggested. - Must have 5 years or more of rigging or millwright experience if no trade school has been attended. - Must be able to read and write, follow written and verbal instructions along with proficient use of computers for tracking and information. - Forklift and Ariel Lift Licenses is required. - Must possess or be able to obtain a CDL (class B) license with air brake endorsement. - The Sr Rigger position requires frequent strenuous manual labor when stopping at various locations for pickups and deliveries. - The employee must be in good physical condition, maintain FMCSA Medical Card, and be capable of loading and unloading with time constraints. - The position requires excellent driving skills and outstanding customer communication/service skills.
