The BECx Sr. Project Engineer will perform building enclosure systems commissioning (Cx) to help deliver Total Building Commissioning (TBCx) to our Clients within UL’s Asset and Sustainability Performance group.


Job Duties Include:

  • Provide technical consulting to building owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors, and project teams with respect to building enclosure and envelope systems engineering and performance.
  • Conduct comprehensive drawing and design reviews of BECx systems.
  • Lead and conduct field BECx activities on job sites when applicable.
  • Maintain communication with internal and external project teams.
  • Track project budgets and ensure scope of work is consistent with contracts.
  • Train and mentor junior level team members.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improving project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Sales Team to assist in developing business.


  • At least (5) years of BECx experience and the ability to simultaneously manage a diverse, complex set of projects.
  • Thorough understanding of building enclosure and envelope systems.
  • Proven experience with the building enclosure commissioning process, documentation, and regulations for, but not limited to, LEED, California Energy Code, United States Army Corps of Engineers Total Building Commissioning, etc. 

Desirable qualifications include:

  • BCxA, BECxP, Cx+BE, CCP, CBCP, QCxP, CxA, or similar certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • LEED Accredited Professional (AP)
  • Energy modeling experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or other similar science degree

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Competency in Microsoft programs
