NORTH SHORE WATER RECLAMATION DISTRICT

ENGINEER

The North Shore Water Reclamation District (NSWRD) is a municipal body which was organized in 1914 under the North Shore Sanitary District Act of 1911. The District is dedicated to the beneficial reuse of our water resources while protecting Lake Michigan, local waterways, and our environment through sustainable and fiscally responsible wastewater reclamation practices at our state-of-the-art treatment facilities. The District Administrative Offices are located in Gurnee, Illinois with water reclamation facilities in Gurnee, Highland Park and Waukegan.

Job Purpose Statement: Performs engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of water reclamation facilities and collection system including collection and analysis of data and information for project scope development, preparation of contract documents and bidding. Interfaces with the Project Manager during the construction phase of projects. Coordinates the Districts CMOM program for collection system inspection and maintenance.

Job Functions: 1. Supervises, coordinates and conducts engineering studies, tests and analyses; oversees the collection, calculation and compilation of data; conducts research regarding alternative techniques or processes; reviews reports and presents recommendations regarding facility or process improvements; prepares reports pertaining to output, progress and/or operations. 2. Directs and participates in the preparation of engineering designs, layouts and specifications for water reclamation facilities and other related facilities; assists in the preparation of contract documents; reviews contract submittals for compliance with quality and safety requirements. 3. Interacts with operations, mechanical, electrical and process automation maintenance personnel to determine and define scope and requirements of project. 4. Locates and contacts vendors to establish sources of supply to meet project requirements, prepare purchase requisitions, bid documents, or procurement documents. 5. Assists Project Manager in administration of projects under construction to ensure work conforms to design intent and requirements of contract documents. 6. Prepares internal and external correspondence regarding engineering projects and related inquiries; confers with other sections, technical consultants and contractors regarding project requirements and assists in the resolution of associated problems. 7. Directs and coordinates NSWRD staff activities associated with review and issuance of sewer permits. 8. Supervises, coordinates and maintains records for the Districts collection system engineering efforts including the CMOM Program, responding to sewer/force main emergencies, including after hour calls, performing sewer construction and easement research and inputting District records and information into GIS.

Job Qualification Requirements

Knowledge: B.S. degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental or Process Engineering.

Experience: Three years of experience in the application of engineering principles is desired or a masters degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental or Process Engineering in lieu of experience.

Machines, Tools, Equipment (Office and Industrial), Software: Proficiency in use of personal computers and engineering tools. AUTOCAD, GIS (ARCVIEW).

Licenses/Certifications: Professional Engineer registration in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain within one year of being eligible.

Other: Valid drivers license

The ideal candidate has a Bachelors in Engineering with exposure to the wastewater process either in coursework or experience. The District is looking for an individual that has recently graduated or will graduate at the end of the Spring Semester.
