We havean exciting opportunity for a SeniorDirector,
Medical Affairs within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics
(ARDx)Division. This newly created opportunity is part of our
InfectiousDiseases Developed Markets (IDDM) Business Unit, within
Research &Development function which consists of Research,
Development, ProjectManagement, Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs,
and Scientific Affairs. You will lead the Medical Affairs
global function for the IDDM BusinessUnit and play a key role
in contributing to theinnovation road map and defining
R&D pipeline for business growth andcommercial success. As a
strategic thought leader and expert inInfectious Diseases, you will
assess emerging and/or unmet medical needs in thedeveloped markets,
provide rationales for new product introduction and onmarket
product sustenance, evaluate opportunities for product
improvements,innovative ideas and disruptive technologies. You will
interact withfunctions such as Global Marketing, R&D, Clinical
Affairs and ScientificAffairs with IDDM and ARDx and serve as the
key medical & clinicalrepresentative of Abbott to external
regulatory agencies and professionalorganizations.
LeadKOL advocacy efforts and manage Scientific Advisory Boards
designed to securefeedback to shape our clinical & commercial
strategies. You will provideguidance on designs for pre- and
post-market clinical studies aimed todemonstrate value propositions
through clinical and economic outcomes.You and your team will
provide medicalsupport for direct customer interactions as needed.
This position is tobe located either at San Diego, CA or Portland,
ME and reports into the IDDM VPResearch & Development. Relocation
support is available.

diseases and other conditions.
Build global Medical and Scientific Affairs functional
capacities and capabilities; broaden network with academic and
industrial opinion leaders, implement new IT tools, align process
and procedure within ARDx quality system to serve business
compliantly, effectively and efficiently.
Work with Global Marketing, R&D and Clinical Affairs to
assess emerging and/or unmet medical needs in the developed
markets, provide rationales for new product introduction and on
market product sustenance, evaluate opportunities for product
improvements, innovative ideas and disruptive technologies.
Provide global strategic direction for completion of medical
opinions, medical platform documents and/ or Health Hazard
Review and approve medical input for promotional and commercial
activities as requested. Provide strategic direction for the
performance of clinical studies related to product development and
commercial/ marketing activities.
Serve as the key medical representative of Abbott to external
regulatory agencies and professional organizations.
Provides medical and scientific support for direct customer
interactions as needed
Provide global medical guidance to country medical teams in
developing country medical plans aligned with global medical
strategy. Review country Medical Affairs performance in
collaboration with other key stakeholders.
Lead medical and scientific affairs team.
Must comply with and enforce all Office of Ethics and Compliance
MD Degree with clinical experience including Infectious
Minimum 8 years clinical experience and 5 years industry
Association within network of academic and industrial opinion
leaders and clinical work in the field of Infectious Diseases.
Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and
Industry, product development and customer knowledge
Proven leader with passion and skills for strategic and critical
thinking, problem solving, motivating and mentoring team
Global market experience, specifically in developed markets
Extensive training and clinical experience in Infectious
Health Outcomes Research/Reimbursement Experience
