Job Description:

The Operations Manufacturing Manager - Waukegan is a key leader, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the manufacturing and assembly of high quality Company products. This leader creates and drives a continuous improvement environment, increases the ratio of value to non-value-added tasks and eliminates waste in the overall operations from start to finish. The Operations Manufacturing Manager - Waukegan meets or exceeds key performance metrics including on time performance, quality, labor productivity, scrap, and safety.

Direct oversight of Production, Manufacturing Engineering, (includes Machine programming, and plant maintenance), Tool room, Planning, Purchasing/Logistics departments.

Plan, develop and implement strategy for the Waukegan production site to meet/exceed organizational performance plans within agreed budgets and timescales.

Review performance against operating plans and standards. Work with other production sites on implementation of best standards.

Utilizing Company Performance System, 80.20, and other tools, initiate actions to achieve a continuous improvement across manufacturing, assembly, quality, and shipping.

Utilize Manufacturing Productivity Index (MPI) and other defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the on-going control and measurement of operational effectiveness.

Develop short-term and long-term plans and programs, to ensure safety, quality, and capacity are in place to meet the needs of the business, supported by timely capital investments, annual budget requests and financial estimates.

Working with the COO, contribute to the evaluation and development of operational strategy and performance with the other Company locations to ensure a consistent application of operational standards across the division.

Review and approve plans for production output of each machining and assembly cell, budget spending, labor efficiency, material efficiency, along with human resource utilization.

Ensure that daily morning meetings are taking place between shop floor managers and team members to review current status of all manufacturing and assembly activity.

Review daily production goals, issues, and balance requirements as needed.

Work with the managers directly as required to guide and assist concerning special projects.

Daily departmental contact by walking the production floor and understanding any issues the department managers may have.

Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies, and general duty of care.

DPS - utilize "10 standards of Lean,", implementation results in increasing MPI.

Meets or exceeds On-time delivery, safety, and quality goals consistently.

Manages capital resources effectively; minimize inventory and WIP, improve machine efficiencies and assembly cell output.

Measure, analyze, and manage production flow. Monitor capacity utilization of manufacturing and assembly cells, adjusting to ensure "80" products and "80" customers are the focus.
Working with the COO, Engineering, and Marketing, understand product line demand trends in short and long term. Request capital investment as required to ensure capacity is in place to meet growth projections.

Identify equipment or method improvements for the plant which will complement our manufacturing/delivery goals and monitor progress with assigned department manager to assure of timely implementation.

Leads, directs, and ensures that proper preventative maintenance of equipment, machines, and facility are routinely conducted.

Manage and develop direct reporting staff as well as collaborate with People & Culture partner to ensure that required capabilities are in place and the expected performance is delivered.
Effectively manages people to their full potential, effective in coaching, modeling, and building operational skills in report directs.

Liaise with other functional/departmental managers (Quality & Safety, Sourcing, Finance) to ensure they are fully informed of operational objectives, purposes and achievements and are ready to support the plant's efforts.

Instills a Safety culture, involving all plant employees in ownership and implementation.


Ability to define problems, determine root cause and develop robust countermeasures.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, customers, and/or board of directors.

Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities required

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; plus 12 years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands:

Good working conditions. Occasional exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold or chemicals. Some elements present which makes conditions less desirable than usually found in an office.
