Position Summary: The Director of Communications and Events, will drive growth at Aspire by increasing event revenue, enhancing awareness, building strategic partnerships, and utilizing volunteers for greater impact. In this role, the Director will have individual accountability for leading and managing special events from start to finish -- development, planning, marketing, and implementation -- while supervising others to ensure marketing, partnership and volunteer priorities are accomplished. In collaboration with the Senior Vice President of Philanthropy and Marketing, is responsible for translating big-picture vision into messaging, strategy, and implementable operational plans. Leads a team of three.Position Responsibilities:The following represents the primary position responsibilities, but other related duties necessary to meet the needs of the organization may be assigned.

  • Lead the planning, management, and implementation of all special events, including Aspire's annual gala with more than 500 attendees and raising more than $400,000, plus miscellaneous donor cultivation and fundraising events.
  • Coordinate event collateral and manage all event logistics, including contracts with venues and vendors.
  • Recruit, supervise and provide support to current and new volunteer event committee members.
  • Acquire new donors and solidify existing donor relationships.
  • Lead all event solicitation, such as sponsorships, reservations, auction donations, etc. to meet event revenue goals; engage board and committee.
  • Ensure superior guest experiences and accurate record keeping with event management software and online registration tools.
  • Maintain financial records for events as well as donor records within donor and event databases, prepare reports and correspondence; assist Finance with auditing and reconciliation processes as needed.
  • Connect and build relationships with community leaders, business leaders, family members, Board members, and others to promote and articulate Aspire's mission, vision and strategic needs to the greater community.
  • With the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Philanthropy, facilitate, plan, direct brand strategy, marketing, volunteering and corporate and community engagement; evaluate outcomes to determine value.
  • Establish organizational messages, keep team members and stakeholders informed.
  • Supervise and coach team members in the accomplishment of goals.
  • Act as the staff liaison to the Associate Board, attending monthly meetings and supporting them as needed.Reporting to this Position:

      Requirements:
      Required Education & Experience:
      • Bachelor's degree
      • 5+ years experience in planning and executing events professionally and/or marketing or fundraising
      • Experience managing a teamAdditional Licensing/Certifications: NoneRequired Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
        • Ability to effectively project manage and execute multiple, simultaneous projects on time with quality results
        • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with a variety of diverse internal and external team members
        • Demonstrated superior verbal and written communication skills
        • Ability to maintain confidential information
        • Ability to work flexible hours (hybrid in office and remote - Hillside or Waukegan, IL) including occasional evenings and weekends for events and committee related work
        • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office SuitePreferred Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
          • Knowledge of online and mobile resources to improve event outcomes
          • Video production or direction experience
          • Budget management and contract negotiation experience
